Catching Up, Part I -- Our Garden

Well, our attempt at an indoor garden didn't survive, but we've more than made up for it outside. Scott had last week off for Spring Break and he spent MANY, MANY hours on our garden. We've all gotten in on the fun, but with my current casted state, the garden was mostly a Daddy job with Eli helping when appropriate. First, Scott and Eli planted grape plants in the back yard. We're not really sure what we are doing with grapes, but we're willing to learn since they are one of Eli's favorite things in the world. And, of course, even if we never get one grape, we've all enjoyed the process.

Next, Scott ripped out our two big front hedges and all of their tangled roots and accompanying volunteer plants. We've been thinking about tearing them out since we've moved in, and as they have gotten woodier and more overgrown, we finally decided to go for it. It's been a relief to start fresh. Eli and Scott planted strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas, green beans and corn. Scott even held him over the planting bed so he could plant the distant seeds.

Eli has loved taking care of his garden, he's been helping us water every day, and excitedly noticing all the new sprouts.

Keira and I weren't able to help much, but we loved sitting outside, soaking up the beautiful weather and cheering on our boys.
